IMD Issues Red Alert for Mumbai with Heavy Rain and High Tide Forecast on Sunday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai on Sunday, July 5, 2026, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the city. The severe weather warning prompted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BCM) to issue safety advisories, asking citizens to remain highly vigilant throughout the day.
Weather officials forecast intense monsoon showers to persist across Mumbai for the duration of Sunday. The continuous rainfall is expected to significantly increase the risk of waterlogging, disrupt vehicular traffic, and cause flooding in low-lying areas across the city.
Adding to the weather challenges, a high tide measuring 4.19 metres is expected to hit the coastline at 3:22 PM on Sunday. The convergence of heavy rainfall and a high tide typically restricts the city's drainage capacity, creating a high potential for flooding in vulnerable spots.
Due to the red alert and the high tide warning, the BMC and the IMD have urged residents to exercise caution. The authorities emphasized the need for vigilance as the city braces for the impact of the heavy rains and tidal conditions on Sunday afternoon.
