Imposters Posing as Police Steal ₹25 Lakh in Gold, Diamonds Near Chira Bazar

Three unidentified men posing as police personnel cheated a man of gold and diamond valuables worth approximately ₹25 lakh near Chira Bazar, prompting the L.T. Marg Police to register a case of cheating by impersonation.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the complainant, identified as Pradip Kadam, was stopped while carrying a bag containing the gold and diamond jewellery in the Chira Bazar area.

In his complaint to the police, Kadam stated that three unidentified individuals arrived on two motorcycles, wearing helmets and face masks. The men approached him and introduced themselves as police personnel.

Under the pretext of being law enforcement officers on duty, the suspects stopped Kadam and proceeded to search him and his belongings. During the search, the accused took advantage of the situation, deceived the complainant, and made away with the bag containing the valuables.

After realising he had been duped, Kadam approached the local police station to report the crime. Following his complaint, the L.T. Marg Police registered a case against the three unidentified suspects.

The case has been booked under Sections 318(4), 204, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to cheating by impersonation and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.

Police officials stated that an investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the suspects. Officers are examining CCTV footage installed along the streets of the Chira Bazar vicinity and surrounding routes to trace the movements and escape direction of the two motorcycles used in the crime.
