Indian Navy Commissions Diving Support Vessel Nipun at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai

The Indian Navy on Monday commissioned its second Diving Support Vessel (DSV), 'Nipun', during a ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan presided over the commissioning ceremony at the city dockyard. The induction marks a significant milestone in strengthening the Indian Navy's maritime capabilities, specifically in deep-sea diving and specialized underwater operations.

INS Nipun is the second DSV of the Nistar-class. The vessel was indigenously constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) and was formally delivered to the Indian Navy on July 30, 2026, at Visakhapatnam.

The vessel's design and construction were completed in strict accordance with the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The newly commissioned ship is equipped to bolster the Navy's niche operational requirements in underwater and diving missions.
