IPS Officer Maneesh Kalwaniya Appointed DCP Zone 1 Overseeing Colaba

Maneesh Kalwaniya, a 2015-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has taken charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Zone 1 of Mumbai City, overseeing critical southern neighborhoods including Colaba. Posted to the role in September 2024, Kalwaniya now manages seven key police stations in the zone, directing law enforcement, crime prevention, and security operations.
In his current posting, Kalwaniya's jurisdiction spans the police stations of Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Marine Drive, Azad Maidan, MRA Marg, JJ Marg, and Dongri. Operating from his office near Bora Bazar, opposite CSMT in Fort, his duties include supervising policing arrangements for elections, major festivals, VIP security, crowd management, and criminal investigations.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Kalwaniya completed a Master’s Degree in Police Management (MDPM) from Osmania University. He underwent his IPS training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy between December 2015 and October 2016.
During his policing career of more than eight years, Kalwaniya has served in multiple administrative and operational roles across Maharashtra. He completed his probation in Jalgaon and served as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Ahmednagar.
He was later posted as ASP Aheri in Gadchiroli, where he managed anti-Naxal operations, intelligence gathering, and force management. During his two-year tenure in Gadchiroli, Kalwaniya combined security operations with community outreach through the 'Police Dada Lora Khidki' program. This initiative delivered government schemes, vocational training, and welfare benefits to nearly five lakh residents, earning recognition at the FICCI Smart Policing Awards 2021. The community engagement efforts contributed to the elimination of 50 Naxalites, the arrest of 46, and the surrender of 42 others.
Before his September 2024 posting in Mumbai, Kalwaniya also served as DCP in Nagpur and as the Superintendent of Police for Aurangabad Rural, where he supervised 24 rural police stations with a focus on technology integration and law enforcement.
