IRCTC Outlet at Mumbai Central Fined Rs 1 Lakh and Shut Down Over Hygiene

An IRCTC-run food outlet located at the Mumbai Central railway station was shut down and its operator fined approximately Rs 1 lakh after food safety authorities discovered severe hygiene violations during a recent inspection.

The action at the Mumbai Central establishment was taken after inspectors found dirty utensils, uncovered cooked food, poor cleanliness, and other sanitary lapses on the premises. The enforcement action comes as food safety authorities across Maharashtra step up inspections of restaurants, hotels, and food stalls.

The ongoing crackdown in Maharashtra has uncovered widespread non-compliance across food outlets. Officials have reported violations ranging from improper food storage and licensing issues to poor hygiene practices and food items deemed unfit for consumption. The initiative forms part of a broader enforcement drive that has also targeted food establishments in Bengaluru.

Railway food stalls have come under particular focus during the drive, with inspectors scrutinizing how operators manage raw materials, cooking oil, and cooked meals. Food safety officials indicated that inspections across food businesses will continue as part of the heightened enforcement effort.
