Israeli Diplomat Avishag Hefer Distributes Tricolour at Mumbai's CSMT

Israel’s Deputy Consul General in Mumbai, Avishag Hefer, participated in India’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign on Friday by distributing the national flag to people at the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) ahead of the country’s 80th Independence Day.

The distribution took place at the busy railway station as commuters gathered ahead of the national festival. A video shared by the Consulate General of Israel to Mid-West India on X showed Hefer distributing the Tricolour and extending Independence Day greetings to members of the public.

In its post accompanying the video, the consulate described the outreach as a celebration of "freedom, friendship, and the incredible spirit of India," adding the message, "Flags high, spirits higher!"

Speaking to news agency ANI at the venue, Hefer shared that this was her second Independence Day spent in India. She recalled her initial days arriving in Mumbai, noting that it had taken her some time to adapt to the city’s pace and atmosphere.

"This is my second Independence Day here... The first time I arrived here, it took me a while to get used to the energy of the city. I am happy to spend the second Independence Day," Hefer said.

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign encourages citizens across the country to hoist or display the national flag at their homes, offices, and public spaces as part of the annual Independence Day celebrations. The initiative has become a central feature of the festivities leading up to August 15, with people participating by displaying the Tricolour and sharing photographs and videos.

Hefer's public outreach at CSMT highlighted the friendly ties between India and Israel, with the diplomat joining local citizens as India prepares to mark 80 years of independence on August 15.
