Jalna Police Seize 44 Weapons in Sundarnagar Raid, Arrest One
Jalna Police seized 44 illegal weapons and arrested a 23-year-old man during a surprise raid at a house in the Sundarnagar area of Jalna on Monday. The raid was executed by a Chandanjhira Police team as part of a special campaign targeted at curbing illegal activities across the city.
The operation led to the recovery of a massive cache of dangerous weapons, including 22 swords, 15 daggers, and four choppers. According to market value estimates provided by authorities, the seized arms are worth approximately Rs 1,34,000. Police revealed that the weapons were allegedly hidden inside the residence with the explicit intention of selling them illegally and spreading terror in the region.
The arrested individual has been identified as Sheikh Majed Sheikh Latif, a 23-year-old resident of Sundarnagar. Officers conducted the pre-planned raid at his home following a specific tip-off regarding his suspicious activities. During the raid, Latif allegedly attempted to flee from the spot but was apprehended by the police team.
Speaking to reporters about the bust, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Jalna) Anant Kulkarni detailed the initial findings of the probe. Kulkarni stated that preliminary information indicates these weapons were brought from Ajmer and had been procured specifically for sale. He also noted that the arrested accused has a prior criminal history, and active efforts are underway to locate and arrest another accused involved in the operation.
The second accused has been identified as Imran alias Imma Salim Sheikh, a resident of Indira Nagar in Jalna, who is currently absconding. Police reports indicate that both men have been operating together as part of an organised gang. Authorities confirmed that several serious cases are already registered against both individuals at various police stations across Jalna city, including allegations of murder, attempted murder, assault, rioting, and offences under the Arms Act.
Following his arrest at the scene, Latif was formally produced before a local court in Jalna. The court remanded him to police custody until August 12. A case has been registered against the accused, and police officials noted that further details will emerge as the ongoing investigation continues.
