Jogeshwari East man booked for threatening police constable during fight

The Meghwadi Police in Mumbai have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a man who allegedly verbally abused and threatened an on-duty police constable on June 26. The incident occurred near Idgah Masjid in the Jogeshwari East locality, where the constable had intervened to stop a physical fight between two men.
The constable, identified as 40-year-old Amol Pawar, was deployed in the area as part of the police bandobast for Moharram. He was stationed near Idgah Maidan and Jhoola Maidan when he noticed a large crowd gathering near the nearby Idgah Masjid. Pawar went over to the gathering to investigate the situation.
Upon pushing through the crowd, the constable witnessed a man dressed in a black shirt violently assaulting another individual. The attacker was using a trouser belt to beat the victim. The victim was later identified by the police as Abdul Malil Shaikh, and the man carrying out the assault was identified as Shamshad Fazlu Shaikh.
Constable Pawar immediately stepped in and tried to break up the physical fight to protect the victim. However, instead of backing down, Shamshad turned his anger toward the officer. He began verbally abusing Pawar and openly threatened him.
Faced with an increasingly hostile situation and a swelling crowd, Pawar quickly called in for police reinforcements to help secure the area. When the additional police personnel arrived at the scene, Shamshad managed to flee from the spot.
Following the confrontation, officers from the Meghwadi Police station conducted initial inquiries with the victim, Abdul Malil. Based on the details of the incident, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, Shamshad, for verbally abusing and threatening Constable Pawar. The Meghwadi Police are currently searching for the accused, who remains at large after fleeing the scene.
