Juhu Police register FIR over abusive online comments targeting BJP MLA Ameet Satam

The Juhu Police in Mumbai have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three individuals following allegations of sending and posting abusive and derogatory messages directed at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ameet Satam.
The police registered the case on the basis of a formal complaint lodged by corporator Anish Makwani. The complaint was submitted to the local police on May 30, prompting the law enforcement agency to initiate an official investigation into the online abuse.
According to the details provided in the police complaint, the incident originated from social media activity on MLA Ameet Satam's official accounts. Satam had previously uploaded video clips on the social media platform Instagram. These videos were shared to showcase and highlight various developmental works and public projects that had been completed across the city.
Following the publication of these videos, two separate social media users allegedly posted highly offensive, derogatory, and abusive comments directly in the comments section of the Instagram posts.
In addition to the public comments left on the Instagram videos, the MLA was also targeted privately. The complaint states that an unidentified individual sent abusive text messages directly to Satam's personal number using the messaging application WhatsApp.
Corporator Anish Makwani became aware of the offensive online remarks and the private WhatsApp messages. Upon learning about the abusive content being directed at the legislator, Makwani decided to take formal action and approached the police department.
On May 30, Makwani filed the complaint with the Juhu Police, detailing the online activity and the messages. Based on this information, the police registered the FIR against the three individuals, which includes the two Instagram users and the unidentified WhatsApp sender.
The Juhu Police are currently investigating the matter to trace the digital footprints of the social media accounts and the phone number used to send the WhatsApp messages. No arrests have been announced yet as the police work to identify the suspects behind the online profiles.
