Kalachowki Police Book Man for Damaging Lalbaug Jain Temple

The Kalachowki police have registered a case against a 62-year-old man for allegedly entering a Jain temple wearing shoes and damaging its under-construction door frame at Magnum Tower in Lalbaug, hurting the religious sentiments of local residents.

The accused, identified as Nirmalkumar Sotani, was booked following a complaint filed by Ritesh Jain, a 45-year-old garment businessman residing in the same residential society. The temple located inside the Magnum Tower complex is dedicated to Lord Shankheshwar Parshwanath.

According to the First Information Report, Sotani had repeatedly voiced objections to religious activities conducted at the premises. Jain alleged in his complaint that Sotani had also previously issued threats to demolish the temple structure.

The alleged incidents took place over two consecutive days. On August 6, Sotani allegedly entered the temple wearing shoes. On August 7, he allegedly confronted two masons and a labourer who were working on the temple's rear door frame, stopping them from continuing their work.

Sotani then allegedly used a bamboo stick to cause damage to the temple's under-construction door frame. Jain stated in the police complaint that the act was deliberate and intended specifically to insult the Jain religion.

Following the complaint, the Kalachowki police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police officials stated that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
