Kalachowki Police Book Three Instagram Accounts for Spreading Misleading Clash Video

The Kalachowki police in Mumbai have registered a case against the operators of three Instagram accounts for allegedly circulating a video related to clashes during Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi celebrations, stating that the footage could incite communal tension.

The complaint was lodged by Police Constable Vikram Khaire, who is attached to the Cyber Squad of the Kalachowki police station. According to the police, Khaire was on duty on August 29 monitoring social media platforms for content that could disrupt public peace and order when he came across the controversial video.

The footage, which had been uploaded on August 26, showed a confrontation between two groups while police personnel were seen intervening to bring the situation under control. The post carried a misleading Marathi headline claiming that an attempt was made to tear a Ganpati banner and that the residents of Lalbaug Parel gave a befitting reply. The video also featured the song "Jalwa Re Jalwa" playing in the background.

Following an initial assessment, the police identified the three Instagram accounts responsible for circulating the content as @mazabappaganesha, @lalbaugparel, and @lalbaugparelchag. The complainant stated that the accounts shared the misleading footage with the deliberate intention of deceiving the public and triggering unrest in the area.

The Kalachowki police have registered a case based on Constable Khaire's complaint. Investigators are currently looking into the operators behind the three social media handles, tracing the origin of the recording, and examining the circumstances surrounding its upload and dissemination.
