Kalyan Commuter Flags Late-Night Safety Issues on Mumbai Local Trains

A 35-year-old woman commuter travelling between Nahur and Kalyan has raised serious concerns regarding the safety of women on late-night Mumbai local trains, highlighting the absence of security personnel and difficulties in contacting emergency services.

Meenu Dugal, an accountant who commutes daily along the route, reported a lack of visible security on late-night train services, particularly after 11:30 pm. She pointed out that lone female passengers face unsettling conditions in empty ladies' compartments during late hours.

The commuter specifically flagged safety issues during prolonged train halts between Thakurli and Kalyan railway stations. Dugal stated that along with the lack of on-board constables during these hours, she also faced difficulties while attempting to connect with the railway women’s helpline for assistance.

The incident highlights ongoing safety and connectivity challenges experienced by solo women commuters travelling on the suburban railway network late at night.
