Kalyan-Dombivli Residents and Leaders Slam KDMC Over Worsening Potholes
The deteriorating condition of roads in Kalyan-Dombivli has sparked severe criticism from residents and local representatives, who allege that the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has failed to fix dangerous potholes across key stretches, including roads near Ramdaswadi and Kalyan railway station.
The poor road conditions have drawn sharp reactions as stretches in the vicinity of the KDMC Commissioner’s official residence are also riddled with potholes. The heavily used route connecting Ramdaswadi to Kalyan railway station has deteriorated significantly, creating serious difficulties for daily commuters during the ongoing monsoon season.
Motorists and two-wheeler riders are facing significant safety hazards as they negotiate damaged stretches with inadequate patchwork repairs. Commuters noted that sudden, deep potholes and uneven surfaces pose severe skidding and accident risks, especially for two-wheelers on critical routes used by thousands of people daily.
Former Shiv Sena (Shinde) corporator Vidyadhar Bhoir raised the issue with the civic administration, alleging that authorities have remained indifferent despite repeated complaints. Bhoir stated that he had brought the issue of poor-quality patchwork and dangerous potholes to the notice of officials through personal meetings and multiple verbal and written representations without any meaningful resolution.
Bhoir pointed out that if roads frequented by the Commissioner and senior civic officials are full of potholes, conditions in other parts of the twin cities are even worse. Residents also warned that public frustration could lead to street protests if the civic administration fails to act promptly. They demanded an immediate survey of damaged roads and durable, long-term repairs rather than temporary patchwork that washes away in the rain.
Responding to the concerns, KDMC City Engineer Anita Pardesi stated that continuous rainfall has caused damage across multiple locations in the city. She said the civic body is currently carrying out road scraping and rolling operations to keep routes motorable for traffic.
Pardesi added that comprehensive road restoration using Mastic Asphalt and Modified Premix Macadam (MPM) will be executed once the monsoon concludes, confirming that the tendering process for the repair works has already been completed.
