Kalyan man electrocuted to death after pulling live refrigerator wire

A 46-year-old man was electrocuted to death at his home in the Murbad Road locality of Kalyan, Thane district, on the night of June 28, 2026. The fatal accident occurred after the man came into contact with a live power cable while in an inebriated condition.
The deceased has been identified by the local police as Dharmendra Ramkisan Gupta.
According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, Gupta had returned to his residence on Murbad Road while in a drunk state. While inside his home, he allegedly pulled the power supply wire that was connected to a refrigerator.
The force of the pull caused the power supply wire to snap. Following this, the live broken cable came into direct contact with Gupta, causing a severe electric shock that resulted in his death.
An official from the local police department confirmed these details, noting that the preliminary findings point to an accidental electrocution. The incident was reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Wednesday.
The police have initiated standard inquiries into the death of Dharmendra Ramkisan Gupta. No other individuals were reported to have been involved or injured in the incident at the Kalyan residence.
