Karnataka Youth Regains Voice in Mumbai After Robotic Surgery for Severe Throat Injury

A 22-year-old man from Karnataka has successfully recovered his voice in Mumbai after undergoing advanced robotic surgery to repair a severe, life-altering throat injury. Balu Durgappa Myegiri underwent the specialized medical treatment in Mumbai after a road accident left him fearing he would never speak again, with his successful recovery highlighted on July 18, 2026.
The accident occurred on March 21 during what was meant to be a routine trip to the market. Myegiri was traveling as a pillion rider on a motorcycle operated by his friend when the crash occurred. According to Myegiri, a car coming from the opposite direction attempted to overtake a truck and collided directly with their motorcycle.
The force of the collision caused the motorcycle's handlebar to strike Myegiri directly in the throat, causing severe physical trauma. "I thought I lost my voice forever," Myegiri recalled when describing the devastating impact of the crash.
To treat the critical throat injury, Myegiri received advanced medical care in Mumbai. A specialized medical team performed robotic surgery to repair the damage. The team responsible for his treatment and subsequent recovery included Laryngologist Dr. Nupur Kapoor Nerurkar, Robotic Oncosurgeon Dr. Rakesh Katna, and Therapist Zainab Nagree.
Through the combination of advanced robotic surgery and rehabilitation therapy, Myegiri successfully regained his voice. The medical intervention allowed the 22-year-old patient to overcome the potentially permanent and devastating throat injury, marking a complete recovery from the accident.
Following the successful treatment, Myegiri was able to stand alongside his medical team, including Therapist Zainab Nagree, Laryngologist Dr. Nupur Kapoor Nerurkar, and Robotic Oncosurgeon Dr. Rakesh Katna, celebrating his recovery from the severe trauma.
