KDMC Assistant Commissioner Suspended Over Inaction on Illegal Construction

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation in Thane district has suspended Assistant Commissioner Jaywant Chaudhary over alleged negligence in preventing illegal construction in the Titwala-Balyani area and surrounding localities.

The suspension order against Chaudhary was issued on Thursday following an inspection conducted across the affected areas. Civic authorities took action after scrutinizing enforcement lapses related to unauthorized structures within the municipal body's jurisdiction.

The disciplinary measure comes after the issue of unchecked unauthorized construction was raised in the Maharashtra legislature during its recent session. Lawmakers had strongly highlighted the proliferation of unauthorized building activities and voiced serious concerns regarding land mafias allegedly erecting hundreds of illegal chawls, or rows of tenements, across localities falling under the Kalyan-Dombivli civic body.

Following the legislative discussions and subsequent site inspections in the Titwala-Balyani belt, the civic administration initiated disciplinary proceedings leading to the official's suspension.
