The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) celebrated India's 80th Independence Day on Friday across the twin-city region, organising flag-hoisting ceremonies, memorial tributes, and public rallies in Kalyan and Dombivli East.

The civic programmes commenced in the morning at the KDMC headquarters, where Mayor Harshali Vijay Chaudhary unfurled the National Flag at the administrative building complex. The ceremony was attended by KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goel, IAS, alongside municipal office-bearers, elected representatives, civic staff, and local residents.

In Dombivli East, a separate flag-hoisting event was conducted at the old Dombivli Divisional Office premises. Deputy Mayor Rahul Damle hoisted the National Flag in the presence of municipal officials and staff members.

As part of the commemorative proceedings, civic leaders and elected representatives paid homage to martyrs at local war memorials. Floral tributes and wreaths were offered at the Captain Vinaykumar Sachan Memorial and the Prerna War Memorial (Shaheed Smarak) by Member of Parliament Dr Shrikant Shinde, Mayor Harshali Vijay Chaudhary, Commissioner Abhinav Goel, and other dignitaries.

A key highlight of the day was a Tiranga Rally organised by the Dr Shrikant Shinde Foundation in collaboration with local social organisations. The rally began at the Captain Vinaykumar Sachan Memorial and proceeded through municipal streets, ending at Dattanagar Chowk in Dombivli East. A large number of students, residents, and community members took part in the march, carrying the Tricolour and raising patriotic slogans.

The celebrations concluded at Dattanagar Chowk with the ceremonial unfurling of a 150-foot-tall National Flag installed by the KDMC. The event was attended by MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, MLA Rajesh More, Mayor Harshali Vijay Chaudhary, Commissioner Abhinav Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende, and other municipal representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Shrikant Shinde, Rajesh More, Harshali Chaudhary, and Abhinav Goel shared Independence Day greetings and highlighted the importance of upholding freedom, unity, and national integration across the twin cities.
