KDMC plants trees at Manda West waste processing facility in Kalyan
On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) organized a large-scale tree plantation drive at the Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Processing Plant in Manda (West), Kalyan. Led by Mayor Adv. Harshali Vijay Choudhary and Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Goel, the event was held under the civic body's flagship 'Mission Harit KDMC' initiative to increase the city's green cover and promote ecological conservation.
The plantation program saw the participation of several civic officials, including City Engineer Anita Pardeshi, local corporator Bandesh Jadhav, corporator Upeksha Bhoir, Tree Authority member Sheetal Mandhari, Chief Garden Superintendent Sanjay Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner Ramdas Kokare, and Executive Engineer Shailesh Kulkarni. A large number of school students from the surrounding area also joined the event.
During the drive, dignitaries and students planted several indigenous tree saplings at the waste processing plant. The civic body stated that the campaign aims to improve environmental health while ensuring a cleaner and healthier future for coming generations.
The active involvement of schoolchildren was a key highlight of the event. The young participants joined the drive and pledged to contribute toward environmental protection. Through their participation, the program sought to instill awareness about climate responsibility, biodiversity conservation, and the long-term importance of preserving trees.
Addressing the gathering, civic officials stressed that urban afforestation has become an essential component of sustainable city development, particularly in rapidly expanding urban centers like Kalyan and Dombivli. They noted that increasing green spaces improves air quality, helps mitigate the impact of climate change, and enhances the overall quality of urban life.
The drive is part of KDMC's broader 'Mission Harit KDMC' campaign. The civic administration has planned a series of tree plantation and environmental conservation programs across different parts of the twin city during the ongoing monsoon season.
Officials announced that similar drives will continue at multiple locations in the coming weeks, encouraging active participation from residents, educational institutions, social organizations, and public representatives. The corporation expects the campaign to strengthen the city's green infrastructure and foster greater public involvement.
