KDMC to Deploy Mobile Cancer Screening Van in Kalyan From August 12

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) will deploy a mobile cancer screening van across various locations in Kalyan and Dombivli from August 12 to 21. The 10-day drive is part of the civic body's 'Mission Shakti-Cancer Free Campaign', aimed at facilitating early detection and timely treatment of cancer for local residents.
The initiative will provide free preliminary screenings for oral, breast, and cervical cancers. Alongside the screenings, the KDMC health department will conduct awareness activities to inform citizens about potential cancer symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures.
Civic officials stated that the mobile screening facility is part of efforts to improve community access to early detection services. The drive specifically targets individuals who might otherwise delay medical checks due to a lack of health awareness or limited access to healthcare facilities.
According to the KDMC health department, residents undergoing oral screening will be examined for persistent sores, white or red patches, lumps, and other suspicious oral changes. An oral biopsy facility will be available directly at the screening site for suspected cases requiring immediate testing.
If individuals display other suspicious symptoms during the preliminary evaluation, civic health teams will refer them to specialised hospitals for further investigation, diagnosis, and treatment. Officials emphasized that early identification helps ensure treatment options remain effective.
The civic administration has appealed to men and women above 30 years of age to participate in the screening programme. Special emphasis is being placed on individuals who consume tobacco, gutkha, areca nut (supari), or cigarettes, as these groups face an increased risk of oral cancer.
Officials urged residents not to ignore lingering symptoms or delay medical evaluation, stressing that early screening enables prompt referrals and better health outcomes.
The mobile van will visit different locations within the municipal limits during the 10-day period. Schedules containing dates, locations, and timings will be released through KDMC’s official Instagram and Facebook pages.
Through the campaign, the KDMC aims to strengthen community-level health screening and encourage residents to integrate cancer evaluations into their routine healthcare practices.
