Kirit Somaiya Alleges Illegal Voter Mapping in Demolished Garib Nagar of Bandra East

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has formally requested an investigation into alleged electoral irregularities in the Bandra East Assembly constituency of Mumbai. In a letter written to Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam, which was reported on 14 July, 2026, Somaiya raised concerns regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the region.

The core of the allegation centers on the Garib Nagar settlement, a locality within Bandra East that was demolished by authorities weeks ago. Somaiya claimed that electoral officials have illegally mapped voters from this cleared settlement during the revision process, despite the physical absence of the residential area.

To address these concerns, the BJP leader has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to launch a formal probe. Somaiya is seeking direct action against the electoral officials who were allegedly responsible for conducting the improper mapping of voters from the demolished site.

The Special Intensive Revision is a critical administrative process designed to ensure that electoral rolls are accurate and up to date. However, Somaiya’s complaint alleges that the inclusion of residents from the demolished Garib Nagar settlement represents a significant irregularity in how the rolls are being managed by local officials in Bandra East.

As of the report, the Election Commission of India has been urged to investigate the conduct of the officials involved. Somaiya has insisted that those found responsible for the illegal mapping should face appropriate action for their role in the electoral roll discrepancies.
