Kirit Somaiya Demands EOW Probe into Alleged ₹64 Crore VVCMC Waste Scam

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya met with the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Bolinj in connection with an alleged ₹64 crore scam involving the civic body.
The alleged scam came to light in relation to the dumping ground waste-processing project overseen by the municipal corporation. Following allegations originally raised by BJP Opposition Leader Manoj Patil, a formal case has been registered against the project's contractor at the Bolinj Police Station in Virar.
During the meeting, Somaiya demanded that the case be handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for a comprehensive investigation. He also called for a probe into municipal officials who may have participated in or supported the alleged irregularities, demanding strict action against all individuals found responsible.
Allegations surrounding the case suggest the financial extent of the scam could be substantially higher than initially estimated, with the total amount potentially exceeding ₹100 crore.
Somaiya was joined at the meeting by several political leaders, including MLA Rajan Naik, Opposition Leader Manoj Patil, and group leader Ashok Shelke.
