Koparkhairane building evacuated after slab collapses from third floor

A concrete slab from a third-floor flat collapsed into the floor below on Wednesday evening, leading to the emergency evacuation and sealing of a residential building in Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai. The structural failure occurred at approximately 5 pm inside Flat No. 302 of Arthav Society, which is situated on Plot No. 14 in Sector 18.
The slab from the third-floor apartment crashed directly into Flat No. 202, which is located on the second floor of the residential building. Despite the sudden collapse and the resulting debris falling into the apartment below, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) civic officials confirmed that no residents suffered injuries, and no casualties or loss of life were reported in the incident.
In the immediate aftermath of the structural collapse, NMMC officials took action to secure the site and protect the building's occupants. The civic body ordered the immediate evacuation of all residents living inside the Arthav Society structure. Once the evacuation of the families was complete, civic officials sealed the entire residential premises.
As an additional safety measure, the building's utility connections, including both the electricity and water supplies, were completely disconnected. Police personnel have also been deployed at the site to secure the residential building and prevent any unauthorized entry while the structure remains sealed.
The NMMC has arranged temporary accommodation for the displaced families who had to leave their homes due to the evacuation. The affected residents have been relocated to the Annasaheb Patil Community Hall, which is located in Sector 5 of Koparkhairane.
An NMMC spokesperson confirmed the actions taken at the site, stating that the municipal corporation shifted the residents to a safe location as a precautionary measure. According to the spokesperson, the building has been sealed, and the power and water supplies will remain disconnected until a further structural assessment of the building is conducted.
