Kurla East developers booked after debris falls from 18th floor damaging 19 vehicles

The Nehru Nagar police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the developer, contractor, and site supervisor of the under-construction Ruparel Crest building in Kurla East, Mumbai. The police action follows an incident on July 5 where concrete parapet blocks fell from the 18th floor of the high-rise, collapsing the parking roof of the adjacent Midas Bhumi Harmony Suryodaya CHS on S G Barve Road and extensively damaging 19 vehicles.
The mishap occurred at approximately 10:25 am. Heavy concrete blocks from the terrace parapet wall of the under-construction Ruparel Crest building crashed directly onto the tower puzzle parking facility of the neighbouring residential society. The force of the impact caused the roof of the parking structure to collapse, sending large amounts of heavy concrete debris falling onto several parked vehicles below.
Among the vehicles parked in the structure that sustained extensive damage were cars, including a BMW, as well as motorcycles, electric bicycles, and bicycles. Despite the severe damage to the 19 vehicles, no injuries to residents or passersby were reported in the incident.
The complainant, 38-year-old Advocate Amreen Abdulla Sharif, lives with her family at the Midas Bhumi Harmony Suryodaya CHS, located in Nehru Nagar, Kurla East. The residential society features an eight-storey tower puzzle parking facility that has the capacity to accommodate around 75 vehicles. At the time of the collapse, Sharif’s own car was parked on the first level of the facility.
Upon receiving information about the accident, officers from the Nehru Nagar police station quickly dispatched a team and reached the spot.
The police have booked the developer, contractor, and site supervisor of the under-construction Ruparel Crest building. The accused are facing charges for allegedly failing to take adequate safety measures at the construction site, thereby endangering public safety and causing extensive damage to the vehicles parked within the residential society premises.
