Kurla West Residents Urge BMC to Remove Dangerous Trees at Holy Cross School

On Wednesday, July 10, a local residents' group urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate action and remove dangerous trees from the premises of Holy Cross School in Kurla West. The urgent appeal was made after one of the trees collapsed early in the morning when the school was closed, which prevented any injuries or casualties.
Alexander D'Souza, the president of the Premier Road Kurla Citizens' Forum, highlighted the ongoing danger at the educational institution. He stated that a second tree, which is a heavily leaning coconut tree situated directly in the children's play area, continues to pose a serious safety hazard to the students. D'Souza warned that if this leaning coconut tree collapses, it could lead to a severe accident.
According to D'Souza, the residents' group had previously reached out to civic authorities regarding the hazard. He alleged that despite multiple complaints submitted to the BMC's L Ward office, the local corporator, and the Garden Department, no initial action was taken to resolve the issue before the first tree fell.
Following the tree collapse on Wednesday morning, the Premier Road Kurla Citizens' Forum also lodged a formal complaint with the BMC's Disaster Management Cell, requesting urgent intervention to prevent another potential tragedy.
Later on Wednesday, D'Souza received a communication from the local municipal authorities. He confirmed that the L Ward Garden Department contacted him to state that officials had been informed of the situation and would attend to the complaint regarding the dangerous trees inside the Holy Cross School premises.
