Lalthane Women Fill Potholes on Tandulwadi-Chahade Road, Prompting PWD Action

Women from Lalthane village in Palghar district came together to fill large potholes along the Tandulwadi-Chahade road after deteriorating road conditions created severe difficulties for commuters and pedestrians.

The main road passing through Lalthane village had developed several deep potholes, creating persistent hazards for daily traffic. During the monsoon, rainwater gathered inside the depressions, making them difficult for drivers and riders to spot and substantially elevating the risk of road accidents. Rather than waiting for municipal intervention, local women organised voluntary labour to carry out temporary repairs and fill the craters themselves.

The grassroots effort drew widespread praise from residents living in the surrounding localities. The initiative also successfully highlighted the neglected state of the road network, drawing the attention of local authorities to the commuter safety risks on the stretch.

Following reports of the women's voluntary initiative, officials from the Public Works Department inspected the damaged section of the Tandulwadi-Chahade road. The department subsequently mobilised teams to initiate official repair operations, deploying gravel and bituminous material to properly fill the potholes and restore the damaged surface.

While the immediate repair work has brought relief to motorists and local commuters, residents have pointed out that temporary measures are insufficient. Community members have called on the Public Works Department to undertake a comprehensive and permanent overhaul of the entire Tandulwadi-Chahade road, urging authorities to execute structural strengthening across the damaged corridor rather than relying solely on temporary patchwork.
