Landslide in Kurla's Chirag Nagar Kills Two, Injures Two; Rescue Underway

Two people were killed and two others were injured after a landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl in the Chirag Nagar neighbourhood of Kurla early on Wednesday morning. According to statements from local residents, between six and eight individuals are feared trapped underneath the debris after the landslide brought down soil and rubble onto two to three rooms of the chawl structure.

The emergency was first reported to authorities at 3:48 a.m. Following an assessment of the damage at Chirag Nagar, the fire brigade officially classified the situation as a Level-II incident at 4:32 a.m. and launched a full-scale emergency response operation.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway in Kurla using specialized rescue equipment. Emergency response teams on the ground include approximately 50 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) labourers alongside personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who are collaboratively working to clear the heavy debris and locate any remaining trapped individuals.

Two victims pulled from the site were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for urgent medical attention. The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Sahil Ansari and 14-year-old Mohamad Samir. Upon their arrival at Rajawadi Hospital, attending doctors declared both victims brought dead.

Two other individuals sustained injuries during the landslide and were taken to Kurla Bhabha Hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as 18-year-old Sohel Ansari, who suffered a head injury, and 14-year-old Mohamad Ansari. Medical officials at Kurla Bhabha Hospital confirmed that both patients are currently in stable condition while emergency operations remain active at the chawl site.
