Light Showers Bring Relief to Andheri as IMD Forecasts Cloudy Skies for Thursday
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with light rainfall or thundershowers for Andheri and other parts of Mumbai on Thursday, July 16, following a brief pause in heavy monsoon activity. The light showers have brought much-needed relief to local residents from the warm and humid weather of the preceding days.
On Wednesday morning, Mumbai residents woke up to relatively clear skies as the heavy rains took a break. However, light spells of rain soon followed in several suburban and island city areas. Suburbs such as Andheri, Goregaon, and Ghatkopar, alongside south Mumbai localities including Byculla, Girgaon, and Parel, witnessed light showers during the morning hours.
According to the IMD, the city is expected to experience spells of light rain or thundershowers at isolated places on Thursday. The weather agency has not issued any major warnings for Mumbai or its neighbouring districts for July 16. However, meteorologists indicate that this respite will be temporary, with heavy rains expected to resume across the region starting July 20.
Temperatures in the city have remained moderate during this transition. On Wednesday, temperatures fluctuated between a minimum of approximately 29°C in the morning and a maximum of 32°C, with the overall range staying between 26°C and 32°C.
Alongside the weather transition, the city's overall air quality remained in the moderate category. Mumbai recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 74. According to the standard classification, an AQI between 51 and 100 is considered moderate, while a reading between 0 and 50 is classified as good.
While the overall air quality was moderate, some pockets of the city recorded poorer levels. MHB Colony registered the worst air quality with an AQI of 149, followed by Janta Nagar at 117, both of which fall into the poor category of 101 to 200. Conversely, Vidhya Nagari and Walkeshwar recorded some of the better readings in the city, with moderate AQI levels of 58 and 56, respectively.
