Lilavati Hospital in Bandra East Plans 5,000-Bed Expansion and Kazakhstan OPD
Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, located in Bandra (East), announced on August 10, 2026, that it is planning a major expansion to add around 5,000 beds across India and international markets over the next two years. The Mumbai-based institution is launching the drive to establish a larger footprint nationally and overseas.
The domestic expansion will bring new Lilavati facilities to Ahmedabad, Indore, and Delhi. According to the hospital, the Ahmedabad unit is set to become the first of these new Indian facilities to open.
Overseas expansion plans include locations in Kazakhstan, Oman, and other international sites. The hospital's first facility outside of India will be a super-speciality outpatient department (OPD) in Kazakhstan, scheduled to open in early September 2026.
The Kazakhstan centre will initially operate strictly as an outpatient and specialist consultation facility, with no inpatient beds provided at this stage. Positioned as Lilavati’s gateway to Central Asia, the OPD will offer specialist consultations, second opinions, treatment planning, and medical advice across several clinical departments.
These specialties include oncology, liver and hepatobiliary sciences, kidney and transplantation, cardiac sciences, neurology and neurosurgery, IVF and reproductive medicine, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, urology, endocrinology and diabetes, paediatrics, and pulmonology.
Dr. Ravindra Karanjekar, CEO of Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, explained that the hospital will adopt a two-tier patient management model in Kazakhstan. Patients whose conditions can be managed locally will receive care through tie-ups with local hospitals, supported by consultations and clinical guidance from Lilavati specialists.
For complex cases requiring advanced surgical procedures or care, patients will be referred through a structured pathway directly to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Dr. Karanjekar noted that Kazakhstan will serve as the first step toward building a broader presence across Central Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and other global markets.
