Lion Bharat Dies During Treatment at Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur

A male lion named Bharat died on Monday afternoon while undergoing medical treatment at the Wildlife Rescue Centre at Gorewada in Nagpur. The animal had been suffering from a combination of severe medical conditions, including paralysis, anaemia, and septicaemia.

Bharat was brought to the Gorewada Project on May 23 following a recommendation from the veterinary committee at Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. The transfer was executed under formal directives from the Chief Wildlife Warden and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Maharashtra.

During his stay at the Gorewada facility, the lion underwent intensive care for his ailments. His medical management included targeted treatments for paralysis, anaemia, and septicaemia.

In addition to direct medical intervention, veterinary care for Bharat encompassed specialized nutritional management, physiotherapy, and wound care. Despite these ongoing treatment efforts, the lion succumbed to his health complications on Monday afternoon.
