Locals Rescue Tourists Trapped by Sudden Water Surge at Vandri Lake Waterfall in Palghar

During the monsoon season, local residents rescued a group of tourists, including families and children, after they became trapped by a sudden surge in water levels at the Vandri Lake Waterfall in Palghar district. The visitors were caught in powerful, fast-flowing currents following heavy rains in the area.

The incident occurred while visitors were sightseeing at the waterfall despite the ongoing rainfall. Within moments, the calm setting transformed into a dangerous situation as muddy water rushed through the area. The sudden increase in water flow left many stranded, forcing people to struggle against the fast-flowing current and causing panic among those present.

A video of the incident, which was widely shared online, showed men, women, and children trying to make their way to safer ground while holding onto one another for support. Local residents quickly stepped in to assist the stranded tourists. Working together, the locals guided the visitors away from the dangerous currents and helped everyone reach safety before the situation could worsen.

One of the tourists who uploaded the video on Instagram explained that the purpose of sharing the footage was to raise awareness about the risks rather than to create fear. The video featured the text, "When fun turns into a horrible situation in just two minutes. Vandri Lake."

The tourist expressed gratitude to a local resident identified as Pravin, along with other residents who played a key role in the rescue operation. According to the social media post, even the people who were recording the incident helped rescue those who were stranded, and everyone was brought to safety shortly afterwards. The tourist added a warning, stating, "No picnic or social media reel is worth risking one's life."

Disaster management authorities and experts have long warned that waterfalls, rivers, and streams can become hazardous within minutes during heavy rainfall. Even if rain appears light at a tourist spot, intense showers upstream can rapidly increase the volume and speed of flowing water, creating dangerous flash floods with little warning. Slippery rocks, poor visibility, and strong currents further increase the risk of accidents during the monsoon months.
