Locked Panvel Bus Stand Toilet Forces NMMT Staff to Walk to Railway Station

Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) bus drivers and conductors at the Panvel Bus Stand in Navi Mumbai have been left without access to basic sanitation facilities because a newly installed mobile toilet remains locked. The restroom unit, which was set up at the busy bus depot approximately one month prior to June 27, 2026, has not been opened for public or staff use due to a delay by local civic authorities in formally inaugurating the facility.
The lack of an operational restroom at the transport hub has caused ongoing inconvenience to the essential workers operating from the depot. Because the mobile toilet is padlocked from the outside and there are no other functional restroom facilities available on the immediate premises of the Panvel Bus Stand, NMMT drivers and conductors are forced to walk to the nearby Panvel railway station to use the toilets there.
The mobile toilet unit was specifically brought in and installed to serve the transport staff who work at the busy depot. However, despite the physical structure being fully in place for about a month, the unit remains completely closed and unusable.
During a spot visit to the Panvel Bus Stand, the brand new mobile toilet unit was seen secured with a padlock. Drivers and conductors were observed standing outside the locked facility, highlighting the lack of access.
According to reports, the delay in opening the toilet is due to bureaucratic procedures, as local civic authorities have yet to hold a formal inauguration for the newly installed unit. Until this official ceremony takes place, the mobile toilet will remain locked, and the NMMT bus staff will have to continue walking to the nearby Panvel railway station to access restroom facilities during their working hours.
