Lokhandwala Residents Flag Safety Risks Along Dark Metro 6 Stretch in Andheri West
Residents of Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri West have raised urgent concerns over severe safety risks along the stretch beneath the under-construction Metro Pink Line 6, where missing street lights have left pedestrians navigating in near-total darkness after sunset.
The affected section lies directly below the under-construction Swami Samarth Nagar Metro station. Pedestrians, particularly women, have reported mounting difficulties travelling along the corridor once daylight fades, pointing to a dangerous lack of street lighting and security presence.
Currently, spots beneath the elevated transit line remain poorly lit and rely almost entirely on the passing headlights of cars and two-wheelers for visibility. Residents noted that the lack of public illumination poses heightened safety hazards and continuous inconvenience for anyone commuting through the area after dark.
Pedestrian movement has been further obstructed by construction materials that have been dumped directly onto the footpaths below the Metro line. Locals alleged that these unattended piles have taken over the pedestrian walkways entirely, leaving no space to walk safely off the road.
Faced with these hazards, residents have lodged complaints with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. They have demanded that the authority intervene immediately to clear the footpaths, bolster security, and restore proper lighting along the Swami Samarth Nagar stretch.
