Mahalaxmi Cable-Stayed Flyover Deadline Pushed to December 31

The completion of the city's first civic cable-stayed flyover along Keshavrao Khadye Marg near Mahalaxmi Railway Station has been postponed to December 31, 2026. The bridge, which was originally scheduled to become operational by October 31, has faced a two-month delay primarily due to ongoing utility-shifting work.

Constructed by the Mumbai civic body, the structure marks its first cable-based bridge over railway tracks. Once finished, the flyover will link Saat Rasta with Mahalaxmi Ground, enhancing traffic flow and connectivity between the two localities.

The entire bridge will measure 803 metres in length and 17.2 metres in width, while the segment extending over railway limits will span 23.01 metres in width. A 78.5-metre-tall steel pylon has been erected to support the cable-stayed structure.

Work on the 95-metre western span has already been completed, along with most of the piers situated on the western side of the pylon. However, the construction of five piers remains pending as authorities prepare a proposed traffic diversion, which will be implemented after securing required permissions from the traffic police.

To facilitate the necessary traffic diversion, the civic administration is building a concrete service road while simultaneously laying utility lines. The 165-metre eastern span, located inside railway boundaries, will begin once the Railways grants the necessary traffic block.

Civic officials confirmed that while structural work is generally progressing according to schedule, the prerequisite utility-shifting operations led to the revised December 31 deadline set by the Bridge Department.
