Maharashtra Allows Retired Staff to Retain Official Housing for Child Education

The Maharashtra government has announced a decision allowing retired employees to retain their official government accommodation beyond retirement if their children are currently pursuing school education.

Under the new directive, a retired employee whose child is studying in Classes 1 to 12 is permitted to retain their government housing until the end of the child's academic year. This provision is subject to the submission of prescribed documents and the payment of licence fees at five times the existing rate.

Alongside this relief for retired personnel, the state administration has also introduced stricter safeguards to prevent employees transferred outside Mumbai from continuing to occupy their official residences.
