Maharashtra Approves Rs 17,725 Crore Metro 13 Linking Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar

MUMBAI — The Maharashtra government has approved the Metro Line 13 project connecting Mira-Bhayandar with Vasai-Virar to improve regional connectivity and reduce traffic congestion across the northern metropolitan region.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Mantralaya on Monday.
The 25.03-kilometre Metro 13 corridor will be constructed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority at an estimated cost of Rs 17,724.99 crore. The alignment includes 21.78 kilometres of elevated track and 3.25 kilometres of underground sections, serving a total of 16 stations, comprising 13 elevated and three underground facilities.
The corridor will connect Mira Road, Vasai, Nalasopara, Naigaon, and Virar. It is planned to integrate directly with existing suburban railway stations at Naigaon, Nalasopara, and Virar. A transit interchange with Metro Line 9 is also planned at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium.
The infrastructure project incorporates a 4.92-kilometre combined six-lane road and metro bridge spanning Vasai Creek, which will connect Panju Island. A dedicated metro depot will be constructed at Chikhal Dongri, and feeder bus services are scheduled to operate at all stations along the corridor.
Chief Minister Fadnavis directed relevant departments to complete land acquisition and develop approach roads within the next six months. The state has set a completion deadline of five years from the date of approval.
According to official government projections, the corridor is expected to handle approximately 4.49 lakh daily commuters by 2031. The transit line is designed to cut travel times by nearly 50 per cent compared to road transport, lower vehicular emissions, and improve access to industrial and logistics centres across the region.
