Maharashtra Approves Rs 3,993.90 Crore Pandharpur Temple Development Plan

On Monday, June 29, 2026, the Maharashtra government officially approved a massive Rs 3,993.90 crore comprehensive development plan for the Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Temple Precinct in Pandharpur. The project, which will be implemented under the title 'Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Temple Precinct Development and Commercial Complex Plan,' is set to be carried out through the state's Urban Development Department.

According to an official statement, the primary goal of the extensive development plan is to transform the famous pilgrimage town of Pandharpur. By upgrading the existing infrastructure, the state government aims to provide world-class facilities for the lakhs of devotees who travel to the temple town.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the comprehensive project will focus on multiple fronts. In addition to improving amenities for visiting pilgrims, the development plan is expected to create new employment opportunities for the local population, boosting the economy of the region.

A major portion of the total approved budget has been specifically allocated to safeguard the interests of the local community. The state government has earmarked Rs 2,026.72 crore for land acquisition, rehabilitation, and financial compensation for properties affected by the precinct's expansion and the construction of the commercial complex.

Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized that protecting the interests of the affected local residents remains a key priority for the administration. The Urban Development Department will oversee the systematic execution of the development and commercial complex plan to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption for the residents of Pandharpur.

With the official approval of the Rs 3,993.90 crore budget, the state government aims to deliver a modern, well-equipped pilgrimage hub while ensuring fair compensation and rehabilitation for the local families and businesses involved. The Urban Development Department will lead the coordination and execution of the plan to ensure all phases of the infrastructure project are completed efficiently.
