Maharashtra Approves Rs 45 Crore Eco Nature Park At Bhandup Ramsar Wetland

On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Maharashtra government approved a Rs 45 crore plan to develop an Eco Nature Park and birdwatching centre at the Bhandup Ramsar wetland in Mumbai. The project aims to transform the ecologically sensitive area to boost eco-tourism and wildlife observation.

Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar announced the development on Monday. The project was initially proposed by BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha. Following the proposal, the project received official approval for funding through the Mumbai Suburban District Planning Committee. According to an official statement, the development work is expected to commence shortly at the Bhandup site.

The proposed state-of-the-art facility will introduce several new features to the Ramsar-designated wetland. Visitors will have access to specially designed birdwatching decks and spaces for live wildlife viewing. Additionally, the development plan includes the creation of dedicated butterfly habitats to foster local biodiversity.

The Bhandup Ramsar wetland is a key environmental landmark in Mumbai. The Rs 45 crore investment by the state government represents a significant step toward developing structured eco-tourism infrastructure in the suburban district, providing a dedicated space for nature enthusiasts to observe local bird species and wildlife in their natural habitat.
