Maharashtra ATS Seizes Rs 9.4 Crore Meth in Bandra East and Greater Noida
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) seized 4.718 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at around Rs 9.4 crore following an operation that began with a trap near Amber Hotel in Bandra East on Tuesday and expanded to an alleged clandestine manufacturing unit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. One person has been arrested in connection with the drug seizure, while two foreign women named as co-accused remain absconding.
The operation commenced after the ATS Kalachowki unit received information that a man was arriving in Bandra East to sell a consignment of methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth. Officers laid a trap near Amber Hotel, intercepted the suspect, and recovered approximately 2.05 kilograms of the drug, valued at around Rs 4 crore, from his possession. Following the seizure, the Kalachowki police registered a case against the suspect under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During custodial interrogation, investigators extracted leads indicating that the contraband had been procured directly from a production facility in Greater Noida. Pursuing the supply trail, an ATS team traveled to Uttar Pradesh and executed a raid on the target premises with tactical assistance from local police.
The search at the Greater Noida unit resulted in the seizure of another 2.668 kilograms of methamphetamine, valued at approximately Rs 5.4 crore, along with raw materials allegedly used in the manufacturing process. Combined with the initial recovery in Mumbai, the total contraband seized in the operation reached 4.718 kilograms, worth around Rs 9.4 crore.
The ATS has initiated a broader probe into the supply network, focusing on the source of the raw materials, the manufacturing process, and how the synthetic drugs were transported to Mumbai for distribution. Officers are also examining the role of the two foreign women named in the case and working to identify other individuals involved in the procurement, manufacture, transportation, and sale of the contraband.
