Maharashtra Cabinet Clears Rs 80.12 Crore for Gadchiroli Sports Complex Phase-II

The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved an estimated expenditure of Rs 80.12 crore for developing additional sports facilities under Phase-II of the District Sports Complex in Gadchiroli, Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar announced.
The initiative is aimed at providing international-standard facilities to players from Gadchiroli to help them compete at the state and national levels. Pawar stated that the government remains committed to bringing youth from remote and Naxal-affected areas into the mainstream by offering them platforms to showcase their sporting abilities.
The Directorate of Sports had submitted a proposal seeking Rs 80.12 crore for the second phase of the development. The proposal had previously received clearance from the High-Powered Committee during its meeting on June 17, 2026, and the formal approval from the state cabinet has now cleared the pathway for funding.
Prior to this sanction, the state government had released Rs 23 crore for the sports complex. That initial funding supported the construction of a swimming pool, kabaddi, kho-kho, and volleyball grounds, a cement basketball court, a badminton hall, and a sports hostel, all of which have been completed and made accessible to athletes and local residents.
At the new project site, infrastructure work has progressed significantly. A gymnasium, an administrative building, and an indoor badminton hall housing four courts have already been finished. In addition, Pawar noted that approximately 80 per cent of the construction work on a dome-type multigame hall has been completed.
Pawar expressed confidence that the expanded sports infrastructure will create better opportunities for young athletes across Gadchiroli and strengthen the district's overall sporting culture.
