Maharashtra Draft Electoral Roll Shows 20 Lakh Gender Gap; Ratnagiri Only Exception
Maharashtra’s draft electoral roll released after the Special Intensive Revision showed a gender gap of more than 20 lakh between male and female voters across the state, according to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer on Monday. Nashik and Mumbai Suburban districts recorded the widest differences, while Ratnagiri emerged as the sole district where women voters outnumbered men.
The draft roll lists a total of 7.71 crore electors across Maharashtra’s 36 districts and 288 assembly constituencies. The electorate includes 3.95 crore male voters, 3.75 crore female voters, and 3,087 third-gender electors.
Nashik recorded the largest gender gap among all districts in the state, with 21.09 lakh male voters compared to 19.6 lakh female voters, reflecting a difference of 1.41 lakh. Mumbai Suburban followed closely with 26.51 lakh male voters and 25.2 lakh female voters, creating a gap of 1.31 lakh.
In contrast, some districts registered significantly narrower gender margins. Nagpur recorded 15.99 lakh male voters against 15 lakh female voters, leaving a gap of 4,321 electors. Sindhudurg recorded 3.05 lakh male voters and 2.9 lakh female voters, marking a difference of 6,015.
Ratnagiri bucked the statewide trend by becoming the only district where female voters outnumbered male voters. The district registered 6.09 lakh women electors compared to 5.87 lakh men, giving female voters a lead of 22,188.
Pune recorded the highest overall electorate in Maharashtra with 62.13 lakh voters, comprising 31.51 lakh men and 30.62 lakh women. Mumbai Suburban stood second overall with 51.71 lakh total electors.
Eligible voters whose names are missing from the draft roll or who need to make changes can submit claims and objections between August 31 and September 30. Voters can apply for inclusion using Form 6 with a declaration, raise objections using Form 7, or request corrections to details such as name, age, address, or gender through Form 8.
