Maharashtra Draft Voter Rolls Published as Polling Stations Shift in Thane

The draft electoral rolls for all 288 Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra were published on Monday as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), bringing significant updates to voter lists and polling station locations across districts, including Thane.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra, the state had 9,78,54,049 registered voters before the revision. Out of these, 7,71,65,562 voters, or 78.86 per cent, have been included in the newly published draft list. The draft list comprises 3,95,89,905 male voters, 3,75,72,570 female voters, and 3,087 third-gender voters.

However, 2,06,88,487 voters, accounting for 21.14 per cent of previously registered names, were not included in the draft list because their enumeration forms were not received. Officials stated the exclusions were due to voters being absent or untraceable at their registered addresses, shifting residences, passing away, holding duplicate or alternative registrations, or refusing to submit enumeration forms.

The draft rolls and lists of excluded voters with specific reasons have been published on the Election Commission of India’s Voter Service Portal, the Chief Electoral Officer's website, and district election portals. Copies were also distributed to recognised political party representatives at the district level.

Voters have been provided a one-month window from August 31 to September 30 to submit claims and objections. Missing eligible voters and individuals turning 18 by October 1, 2026, can apply for inclusion using Form 6. Objections to entries can be raised via Form 7, while corrections to names, addresses, age, or gender can be submitted using Form 8.

Electoral Registration Officers and over 7,000 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will verify and process all submissions until October 29. The final electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on November 4, 2026.

Alongside the voter roll revision, polling stations across the state underwent rationalisation, reducing the total count from 1,00,253 to 1,00,216. A total of 394 new polling stations were added and 431 were removed due to voter count reductions. Additionally, locations for 1,403 polling stations were changed, particularly in Thane, Palghar, Mumbai City, and Mumbai Suburban districts.
