Maharashtra FDA Issues Strict Compliance Order to Regulate Edible Oil Supply Chain

The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), under the leadership of Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, on Thursday issued a comprehensive statewide compliance order governing the entire edible oil supply chain.
The regulatory directive aims to tighten enforcement on edible oil safety standards across Maharashtra, warning sellers and supply chain operators of hefty penalties if they fail to comply with established rules.
The regulatory crackdown was initiated following extensive market inspections conducted by authorities. These inspections uncovered widespread food safety violations, including the adulteration of edible oil, improper labelling, and the use of unsafe packaging.
Officials also discovered instances of repackaging near-expiry oil alongside other non-compliant practices across the supply chain, prompting the administration to enforce stricter oversight for consumers and sellers throughout the state.
