Maharashtra FDA Suspends Parsi Dairy Farm License Over Serious Hygiene Violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the business license of the iconic Parsi Dairy Farm in Mumbai due to serious hygiene violations. The regulatory action, which was reported on July 16, 2026, occurred during a massive statewide enforcement crackdown carried out on the preceding Tuesday and Wednesday.

During their targeted inspections at the Parsi Dairy Farm premises in Mumbai, health inspectors uncovered several critical public safety hazards. According to the FDA, the serious hygiene violations found at the establishment included active fungal growth, pest infestations, and inadequate sanitation facilities. Additionally, inspectors discovered that the facility was stocking and selling dairy products that did not carry mandatory expiry date labels.

The suspension of the dairy farm's license was part of a larger, coordinated campaign titled 'Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra'. Over the course of the two-day drive, the FDA conducted 24 high-profile raids across various regions of Maharashtra. The inspections specifically targeted hotels, restaurants, and other food establishments to check for lapses in hygiene and food safety.

In Mumbai and Palghar, the FDA focused heavily on monitoring dairy operations and public eating spaces. The broader statewide crackdown resulted in the seizure of adulterated and banned food products worth nearly Rs 1.9 crore. Among the items confiscated by the authorities were adulterated milk, various dairy products, spices, and banned substances including gutkha and pan masala.

The state's intensive enforcement drive also led to significant legal consequences. Law enforcement officials registered 11 First Information Reports (FIRs) and made 16 arrests in connection with the food safety violations. Following the crackdown, authorities also launched a new AI-powered grievance portal to allow citizens to report food safety issues directly.
