Maharashtra Forms Panel to Reform Government Recruitment Exams
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the formation of a high-level committee on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to recommend comprehensive reforms for the state's government recruitment examination system. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Fadnavis at his official Varsha residence in Mumbai, with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also in attendance. The initiative aims to make recruitment examinations across Maharashtra more secure and transparent.
The newly constituted panel will be headed by V. Radha, Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department. As part of its review process, the committee will travel across various revenue divisions in the state to interact with students, representatives from educational institutions, and other stakeholders before submitting a final report on proposed systemic reforms.
The committee includes several senior state officials: Director General of Police Sadanand Date, Information Technology Department Secretary Virendra Singh, Animal Husbandry Department Secretary Dr N. Ramaswamy, and Nashik Divisional Commissioner Pravin Gedam. During the meeting at Varsha, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde offered several recommendations regarding structural changes to the recruitment framework.
In addition to setting up the panel, Chief Minister Fadnavis directed officials to complete the process of implementing a recently enacted central law dealing with paper leaks and examination-related malpractices within the next fortnight. While Maharashtra already possesses state legislation addressing exam integrity, Fadnavis noted that the central statute contains stricter penal provisions.
To further prevent malpractices, the Chief Minister instructed the government to establish at least 25,000 secure classrooms across Maharashtra specifically designated for conducting examinations. The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination among key authorities, including district collectors, police commissioners, superintendents of police, and senior officials from the education department. Officials reviewed recruitment examination models used in other countries, alongside current state procedures, to identify effective measures for safeguarding exam security.
