Maharashtra Government and VPPL Review Vadhvan Port Skill Training Progress in Mumbai

On Monday, Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. (VPPL) and the Maharashtra state government held a high-level meeting in Mumbai to review the progress of the Vadhvan Port Skill Development Programme. The meeting focused on aligning workforce training with future employment opportunities at the upcoming greenfield port.
During the meeting, officials presented the Manpower Study Projections Report. This report outlines the projected employment opportunities, required technical competencies, and specific job roles across various phases of the Vadhvan Port project. The document is designed to serve as a roadmap to sync training timelines with the port's construction phases.
The review session was attended by senior officials from the state government, VPPL, the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), and the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET).
"The Government of Maharashtra remains committed to building a responsive and future-oriented skilling ecosystem that aligns with emerging industrial requirements," said Manisha Verma, Additional Chief Secretary for Skill Development.
VPPL Chairman and Managing Director Gaurav Dayal emphasized that the partnership would secure employment opportunities for the local population. Dayal stated that the collaboration would help create a sustainable talent pipeline, ensuring local youth are equipped with the competencies required for the development and long-term operations of the port.
Officials also reviewed the ongoing implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between VPPL and the DVET. As part of this initiative, four training batches of 30 trainees each have already commenced.
These specialized courses are being held at local institutes. ITI Vangaon is currently running courses in Fitter Fabrication, Digital Mitra, and Assistant Electrician, while ITI Palghar has launched a specialized Manual Metal Arc Welding course.
According to VPPL, the initiative has already trained more than 7,000 students through 24 distinct skill development programmes. The training initiatives are set to expand further as construction on the Vadhvan Port project progresses.
