Maharashtra Government Issues Strict Safety Guidelines for Fire and Gas Hazards

The Maharashtra government has issued strict new directives and safety guidelines to mitigate LPG, PNG, fire, and electrical hazards across the state. The official order, issued by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation on July 17, 2026, in Mumbai, has been formally sent to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and all district collectors to ensure implementation.

The new safety guidelines are designed to address and prevent a wide range of hazardous incidents. According to state officials, the directives focus heavily on mitigating risks associated with gas cylinder explosions, electrical fires, industrial accidents, chemical mishaps, and safety incidents at firecracker factories.

Prior to the issuance of the order, the safety proposal was discussed with Maharashtra's Disaster Management Minister, Girish Mahajan. During these discussions, Minister Mahajan directed department officials to examine the proposed measures carefully to ensure they can be implemented widely and effectively across all districts.

Following these consultations, the Department of Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation finalized the directions. The State Disaster Management Authority and district collectors will now be responsible for overseeing the enforcement of these safety measures within their respective jurisdictions to protect public safety and minimize industrial and domestic hazards.
