Maharashtra Govt to Address Vaishya Vani Community Caste Certificate Issues

In a meeting held at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Tuesday, Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Minister Atul Save said the Maharashtra government is positive about resolving the pending demands of the Vaishya Vani community and ensuring eligible members receive state benefits and concessions.

The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Uday Samant, senior officials from the Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Department, and representatives of the Vaishya Vani community to discuss specific hurdles related to caste certificate verification.

During the discussions, community representatives highlighted the challenges faced by eligible individuals during the verification process. They requested that authorities review existing documents, evidence, and actions taken in prior cases so applicants are not subjected to unnecessary re-verification.

Save stated that wherever earlier documents and evidence are clear, officials should examine them objectively. He instructed the department to ensure that eligible individuals do not face injustice or administrative delays due to repeated verification procedures.

The meeting also evaluated the possibility of referring the matter to the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission for an objective assessment based on social, educational, and other prescribed criteria.

Save directed officials to review the Commission's established standards, prior reports, and available evidence while preparing a detailed assessment. He emphasized that the validity of caste certificates is vital for accessing government schemes, noting that procedural delays directly affect beneficiaries.

Senior state-level officials were instructed to hold the necessary consultations and submit a comprehensive report promptly, following which the state government will determine further action.
