Maharashtra Grants Loose Edible Oil Traders One-Year Extension After FDA Ban

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a one-year transition period for loose edible oil traders to align their business practices with existing regulatory laws, coming weeks after a ban imposed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The announcement followed a meeting held at Mantralaya in Mumbai, chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by representatives of loose edible oil traders, producers, and repackaging businesses.

Under the decision, enforcement actions against the sale of loose edible oil will remain suspended for a duration of one year. The transition period is intended to give traders, producers, and packaging entities the time required to adjust their operational and retail practices in accordance with statutory standards.

To assist businesses throughout the process, the state government confirmed it will form joint committees comprising FDA officials and representatives from the edible oil trade. These panels will be tasked with recommending measures and offering guidance to traders as they work toward full compliance with existing laws.
