Maharashtra Judicial Employees to Launch Phased Protest Over Pay Parity From Sept 16

MUMBAI — The Maharashtra State Judicial Employees Federation has announced a phased statewide agitation starting September 16, demanding the implementation of the principle of “equal pay for equal work” for subordinate court staff across Maharashtra.

The federation stated that a formal proposal seeking salary parity between employees of subordinate courts and those working in the High Court has been pending with the Maharashtra state government since January 31, 2025. Despite submitting repeated representations to authorities, no decision has been taken on the matter, prompting employees to organize protests.

Representatives of the federation pointed out that subordinate court employees operate under demanding and challenging conditions while serving as the backbone of the judicial system. However, significant disparities in pay scales persist between subordinate court staff and High Court employees, even though the nature of their work remains comparable. The ongoing disparity has led to widespread resentment among judicial staff members throughout the state.

To draw the state government's attention to their long-pending demands, the federation finalized a phased agitation plan beginning September 16. The organization warned that the protest will escalate in stages across Maharashtra if the government fails to take a positive decision regarding the salary parity proposal.
