Maharashtra Mandates CCTV Recording for Hiring 5,012 Assistant Professors
Interviews for the recruitment of 5,012 assistant professors across aided senior colleges in Maharashtra will now be recorded on CCTV under fresh oversight rules introduced by the state government. The recorded video footage must be preserved for at least one year as part of measures to tighten scrutiny and ensure transparency in the academic hiring process.
The state government has issued fresh guidelines placing greater responsibility on universities, colleges, and selection committees. These rules apply to appointments in non-government aided senior colleges affiliated with public universities across the state.
Under the new directives, colleges are required to publicly release the criteria used for shortlisting applicants. They must also publish the complete list of shortlisted candidates on their official websites. In addition, institutions must submit candidate details and the marks awarded during the shortlisting phase online to their respective affiliating universities.
Public universities have been assigned an expanded supervisory mandate to oversee the entire recruitment procedure. Universities are tasked with verifying that the qualifications specified in recruitment advertisements strictly conform to University Grants Commission norms.
Furthermore, the backward class cells within the universities must examine recruitment procedures to confirm that all statutory reservation provisions are properly applied during candidate selection.
To ensure uniformity in evaluation, the affiliating university will prescribe the marking criteria for the interview stage, and all colleges will be required to strictly follow the mandated marking format throughout the selection process.
